Fidget Toys for ADHD in Children

February 18, 2017 9 Comments

Children today are more likely to experience ADHD and anxiety like symptoms than in any time in history.  In the United States as much as 20% of all 12-year-olds are currently taking a medicine such as Ritalin and Adderall that helps manage ADHD symptoms.  These medicines may result in negative side effects in the growing minds of young children such as headaches, insomnia, depression, and cardiac issues.  Fortunately some recent studies have shown that playing with fidget toys can help alleviate ADHD symptoms in children as well as some drugs while being safe, affordable, and fun to play with.

Why do we fidget?

It's not uncommon to hear fidgeting being spoken about negatively. It's often labeled as unprofessional and deemed as anti-intellectual behavior.

But in reality, the exact opposite has been suggested to be the case.

The way we look at fidgeting needs to change. This behavior isn't one that should continue to be stigmatized and mocked as unbecoming or inappropriate. We are passionate about the idea that fidgeting is a process that, with the right tools and outlet, can have positive and real-life applications.

What are fidget toys?

Fidget toys are handheld gadgets that can be played with to help alleviate stressful behavior.  One such popular toy is the fidget cube.  This best selling Kickstarter product was able to raise $6 million from over 150,000 backers.  The Fidget Cube works well because it is very compact so anyone can carry it anywhere, whether it's in their backpack or even back pocket.  This makes it easy to help alleviate fidgeting habits whenever they arise.

It is important that the fidget toy you use to help alleviate fidgeting symptoms is compact.  This way a child can grow attachment to the object and remember to take it with them wherever they go.  Their favorite fidget widget will be with them when they're on the bus, in class, or waiting at the doctor's office.  Our best selling Fidget Widget Focus Cube is actually only 3.3cm on each side making it perfect for portability and usability.

Fidget toys are designed to be as silent as possible.  Many people that experience fidgeting symptoms often feel these intense urges in inopportune moments such as during class or an office meeting.  Fidgets may annoy their fellow colleagues with the sounds they make while fidgeting such as tapping their foot, clicking their pen, or biting their nails.  Therefore, a good fidget toy needs to be designed to work well without making any sounds or disrupting someone next to you.  Our own products are designed to function in totally silent settings.

A good feature in a fidget toy is the aesthetics and overall look and feel.  Many children who suffer from ADHD and anxiety symptoms tend to also be shy and be hesitant when approaching people.  A neat looking fidget toy can grab attention of people around them and ask them questions about it.  You can check our video below for an example.

It is not necessary for the fidget toy to be expensive and are actually very affordable for any budget.  A quality product such as our own can be purchased for just $10 with free shipping worldwide.  Compared to expensive medications our fidget toys can save a lot of money in the long run while being very effective without the negative side effects.

I am a nurse and I use the fidget cube for nervous patients to play with when Im doing things to children and adults like giving injections – it’s small enough that adults don’t get embarrassed and also that kids can use it one handed. Brilliant gadget.
